B2B LOCK | How to handle blank product cards in collections page when you are using the Hide Product/ Hide Collection modules?

When using the Hide Product or Hide Collection modules in B2B Lock, you may notice that some collection pages display blank product cards. This occurs because restricted products are hidden from guests or unauthorized users, but the storefront grid layout still attempts to render their slots.

To keep your collections page looking clean and professional, it’s important to configure your settings properly. Instead of leaving empty spaces, you can use a placeholder product card to maintain a consistent layout and provide a smoother browsing experience.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to handle and prevent blank product cards by using placeholder product cards when applying product or collection hiding rules.

Step 1: Go to Hide product/ Hide collections rule and edit.

  • Select the rule:

  • Go to section 2. Access & Message, scroll down to customize your message on Placeholder Product Card:

Step 2: Preview and edit:

  1. **Choose the option "Show locked image if hidden items are listed". **

  1. Customize general styling:
  • Show image lock: Display a lock icon on the product card.
  • Blur product image: Show the product image but in a blurred effect.
  • Image ratio: Adjust the image ratio (100% – 125%).
  • Make basic edits to some attributes of the product card such as background color, border style, etc.

  1. Customize text message:
  • Here, you can change the text displayed on the placeholder card.
  • Make basic edits to text attributes such as font size, color, weight, etc.

  1. Preview overrall and click **Save: **
  • After you save the rule, B2B Lock will usually take about 5-10 seconds to automatically update your theme. A toast will appear when the process is done.

  1. Additional customization:
  • You can also contact our support team to request more advanced customizations and styling for this section based on your needs.

Step 3: Storefront display:

To help you visualize better, here are the two versions before and after using the placeholder card feature on the collections page:

  • Before: The collections pages contained blank spaces (the number of blank spaces equaled the number of hidden products on that page). Products from the following pages could not be pulled forward to fill the gap.

  • After: The blank spaces are replaced with placeholder cards styled as configured in Step 3. This ensures that each collections page always displays the maximum number of product cards as set in your Shopify theme customizer.

With this setup, your store can effectively handle blank product cards on collection pages when using the Hide Product/Hide Collection modules.

If you have set up both of the above but it’s still not working properly, feel free to contact our support team at support-sbc@bsscommerce.com or via our Live Chat within the app.
